SEED CHECK - WHAT I CAN OR PLAN TO SOW IN FEBRUARY
I took some time out in September going through my two tins of seeds, made a excel spreadsheet,  hoping it means planning is a lot earlier this year.

Out of my seeds,  these are the plans for february (NEED TO GET SOME ONION SETS, GARLIC, AND POTATOES too)

SOW OUTDOORS...
Beetroot  -   Detroit
Broad bean - Aquaduice Claudia (can be sown Jan - but grounds too wet in my view)
Carrot -  Amsterdam   (sowing carrots in pots this year as ive had no luck with carrots so far)
Carrot - Early Nantes
Cauliflower - All the year round
Kohl Rabi - Purple Vienna
Oregano - True Greek
Parsnip - Guernsey (only sow if a mild winter)

INDOOR SOWING...
Cabbage - Primo II  (Feb/Mar for indoors)
Chilli Pepper - Jalapeno M (use a Propagator)
Leek - Autumn Mammoth (jan/feb only  - sow in pots in conservatory ready to transplant when it warms up)
Tomato - Cherry Cascade
Tomato - Gartenperle
Tomato - Sweet Aperitif
Tomato - Tamina

Blimey looks like February's going to be a busy month.   Glad i did this, means i need to do more digging early feb than i thought i needed to do.

January 2014

January 2014...
I am still picking Sprouts,  Brocolli and baby cabbages

The Broad Beans that i sowed in pots in november, have come through and doing really well.   Next weekend i will dig over a area ready for the February sowing of broad beans.    I always sow some in november (but in particularly cold and harsh winters they wont survive so never sow a full packet - but in warmer winters you get a brilliant early crop)
I did put two to a pot thinking they all wouldnt germinate, but they have.  so may need to seperate them out a little bit,  ill leave them for now though.

And my leeks have really come on great.  early december they were really small and struggling,  and a older guy on the plot, said you might aswell pull them up youve put them in too late and they will not survive the winter.    hmmm, im leaving them in and ill see what happens.   Glad to say i didnt listen, obviously a milder than average but wet any sunny (not really been many cloudy days its either been sunny or wet) has definately helped them.   hoping these will be ready to pick around easter time.  coming on great.

The top end of my allotment,  wont take much digging over.  almost finished the sprouts from this area  (still got some further down).   I will be digging this over during february, but at the moment the ground is far too wet,  and you shouldnt dig over water sodden ground.   ideally dig over after two or three days of sunny weather (easier said than done in the uk)

This is the bottom end of my allotment.   not used this area yet but i do get a bumper crop of blackberrys from this area.     on my list to tidy up, but dont want to pull up the blackberry canes.
So as February approaches.    the priorities will be to do dig a over an area for the february sowings of broadbeans.
Decide a area where i will grow my Spuds - and dig over the area ready for sowing march time
Mark out my onion and garlic zone too.
